Book published by the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies as a Memorial to its author,who was President of the Federation and Grand Bard of Cornwall from 1934 until his death in 1959; a man of outstanding stature both in scholarship and character,he was respected and indeed revered leader of the Cornish Revival.The Glossary which forms the greater part of the book deals with the dialect and other words given by Cornish fishermen to fish,birds,equipment and other things encountered in their daily lves; fulll use is made of all available printed and manuscript sources,but the greater part of the material was gathered by the author himself from old fishermen many years ago and would otherwise have been lost beyond recall.The book contains material of vital interest to scholars concerned with Cornish and other Celtic Languages,Natural History,and Nautical Research,but it is in no sense dry and contains much that is of interest to all Cornish people concerned with the ways and words of their ancestors.A memoir and appreciations of the author,with a bibliography of his writings,have been added to complete the book as a worthy memorial to a great scholar and a great Cornishman. Since April,2013,the UK Post Office has increased it's Pricing in Proportion template,altering its weight allowances,dimensions and lowered its qualifying compensation rates too!
